Human Existence
Life is a miracle, a gift and is sacred. Every human being at some point in their life has given thought as to why they exist. Every culture provided their own explanation for existence. Few people were ever provided the space to question or challenge the framework by which their culture existed and operated. Every human being should be given the opportunity to analyze said status quo for the sheer objective of understanding why they exist. This will mean letting go of any and all prescribed biases or personal desires. If one is not willing to accept that their "meaning of life" could be completely misguided, then they remain a prisoner of their own story. Not one human being is self-created, not one! Existence is not religious, nor random, nor a theory, nor a philosophy or an ideology. Therefore there is a Being greater than human beings that is responsible for our existence. That Being is identified in the Jewish Bible, known as the Tanakh. That Being has expectations of every human regarding their actions, deeds and thoughts. The expectations are found in the Law Code the Creator gave to the kingdom of Israel over 3000 years ago which are reasonable and rational, as all societies are based on the "Rule of Law". Life is history, and by your exhaustive studies of other cultures' law codes, the absolute credibility of the Jewish Law Code will be established through a historical lens, along with a cultural, legal, cognitive and holistic perspective.
My Background
I started life as the second of three other siblings. My dad was a pilot in the Navy from 1953 until 1974. His career spanned as a test pilot, #5 lead solo for the Blue Angels, commander of the Black Knight Squadron and Operations Officer at Miramar Naval Air Station (Top Gun) located in San Diego, California. My mom stayed at home and took care of us kids in the early years. After my dad's retirment, from the age of nine, I spent most of my time in Spokane Washington where my dad had grown up on Liberty Lake. It was on my second tour of higher education in the early 1990's that I landed in the Seattle Washington area. There I met and married my wife Jennifer, who worked in the banking industry at Washington Mutual. In 1998 I began teaching History/Social Sciences at an alternative high school in Bellevue Washington. In 2001, I was hired by the Northshore School District in Bothell Washington, where I taught and coached for nine years. It was over the course of the twelve years I was in the classroom, that I began to look at how our educational system primarily focuses on white collar jobs based on the mandated curriculum. All the while, leaving the majority of students scrambling for some other option. It was in May of 2010, that I spent two days looking at my tenured teacher contract with three months off a year, all the while running a small business on the side. With three sons all under the age of six, I decided to quit and do something else for my son's financial future. But I was also to take another journey, trying to figure out which story I was going to tell my sons, regarding why they exist and what is the purpose of life.
The Approach
Essentially you will be going back to school, just like I did when I became a teacher after spending time in the business world and then running my own small residential services business. It was having my first son at forty and then two more boys that I began to question the focus of the education system as well as what I had been taught having been raised Catholic. It was also the 2008 mortgage crisis and showing my 7th graders the five major world religions that I was compelled to focus on my sons financial stability and grapple with the fact that the Bible was a series of historical documents that were culturally attached to the Jewish people. I will be applying an Advanced Placement World History acronym known as "PERSIAN" to our studies, which provides one the opportunity to establish a comparative analysis of cultures and their law codes of over 5000 years of recorded history through the Social Sciences. As we do this, the Ancient Jewish Law Code will come to life and become applicable in the 21st Century and beyond.
